New Book on "Historic Irvington"
"Historic Irvington," a recently published pictorial history book of Irvington will be previewed by the author Mrs. Julie Young, Wednesday, August 20th, 11:30 am at the Golden Coral Restaurant, 10220 E. Washington St. Autographed volumes will be available. This is an excellent publication one that you will want to become acquainted with. Your host: East Side Optimist Club.

Our Lady of Lourdes Chess Club Hosts Public Tournament
Our Lady of Lourdes Chess Club will host its next tournament on Monday, April 28th. Arrive any time between 3:05 and 3:55. It ends at 5:30 and is in the cafe. Cost is $2.00 for OLL students, and $3.00 for non-students. This is open to anyone in grades K-8! Call Kieron Mitchell with questions: 317-430-5254.

Irvington Community Invited to Free Lunch at Second Helpings
"Second Helpings," an Indianapolis-based organization dedicated to eliminating hunger, empowering people and stopping food waste, is inviting the Irvington community (and friends) to a free lunch on Monday, October 9 at 12 noon at their new facility at 1121 Southeastern Avenue (just south and east of where Southeastern Ave. connects with Washington St.) The lunch will last from noon till 1 and includes a delicious meal plus a tour of the facility. No one will be asked for donations of either time or money. The purpose is make people aware of the work being done by Second Helpings and their associated catering business. Anyone interested in attending is asked to contact Second Helpings at 632-2664 and mention the October 9 luncheon or contact us through this website using the "contact us" tab along the top. This way the chef will have enough food for everyone.

Irvington Garden Club Hosts Farmer's Markets This Summer
The Irvington Garden Club will host a Farmers' Market from noon - 3 p.m., Sunday June 11, at Ellenberger Park, 5301 St. Claire Street. Fresh produce, baked goods, flowers, crafts and more plus free entertainment.

Irvington Day
Irvington celebrates Irvington Day on June 3, 2006 with music, art and food throughout the day. One of the highlights of the day is the preview of the work being done on the Irving Theater. Music and art will be featured throughout the day in the theater.

The Studio School & Gallery Preparing for Second Session
The Studio School and Gallery, a new arts education/experience facility located at 5622 E. Washington is currently registering students for its second session which begins the week of January 23, 2006. Downey Avenue Christian Church Damaged By Fire
Downey Avenue Christian Church, 111 S. Downey Ave. was damaged by a fire Friday night, December 17 in the evening. The fire extensively damaged the choir room and choir dressing rooms. Losses included the organ and much of the current music library. Also destroyed were new choir robes purchased just last year and all of the madrigal costumes that had been created over the past few years. This fire follows closely on the heels of a fire at Ellenberger UCC church at 10th and Ritter. The cause of that fire was recently determined to be arson. No determination has been given for the Downey fire at this time.

Irvington Visits Second Helpings
On Monday, August 15th, a luncheon was held for twenty residents of the East side community of Irvington. The luncheon and tour was the first in what will become a series of events designed to introduce Indianapolis residents, first hand, to the work of Second Helpings.

Second Helpings is an eight year-old non-profit agency with a three part mission of hunger relief, food rescue and job training. Details are available at www.secondhelpings.org

Little Flower hosts annual festival June 3, 4 and 5
St. Therese of the Little Flower will have its festival on June 3,4, and 5. There will be games rides, and plenty of food. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the festivities.

Harold's Steer-in Re-opens
Within 3 weeks of its closing, Harold's Steer-in re-opened much to the happiness of its regular customers. Harold's has new hours from 6am to 3pm. Make sure you patronize them so we can keep them in business.

Holiday Spirit in Irvington December 3
Many of the shops along Washington street between Ritter and Audubon will be open late (between 6pm and 10pm) on Friday night, December 3. Many will feature sales and all will be sharing the spirit of the holidays. There will be FREE horse and carriage rides plus snacks at many of the shops. Also there will be fire pits in front of the shops plus music including carolling and a string quartet at Lazy Daze coffee shop. Two important public hearings regarding Irvington
Two very important public hearings are scheduled in December regarding Irvington's historic preservation plan. On December 1, the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission will meet, and on December 15, the Metropolitan Development Commission will meet.

Andy Jacobs Dines in Irvington on Election Day
Respected writer and former politician Andy Jacobs was seen in Irvington on election day eating at The Legend. Jacobs joined a regular group of voters (organized by Tawn Spicklemire) who meet for lunch every election day. In the past, the group met at Harold's Steer-in for lunch on election day. However, with the recent closing of Harold's, the group moved its bi-annual gathering to The Legend.

Harold's Steer-in Closes its Doors
Sunday, October 31 at 3pm, Harold's Steer-in served its last meal. With a nearly packed house the entire day, Gina and Lisa served long-time regulars their final meals at Harold's. While the doors are officially closed at this time, rumours abound that there may be some things in the works to re-open Harold's. None of the rumours could be verified.

Harolds Steer-In Set to Close
Four years after being saved from closing by two sisters who had worked there, Harold's is once again scheduled to shut its doors. The last day of business will be October 31, 2004.
