Public Meeting scheduled to discuss School #57

Parents and community members are invited to the first public meeting to discuss renovation plans for George Julian School 57. The meeting will be Monday, May 9, at 7 p.m. at the school, 5435 E. Washington Street.

The architects chosen for the school’s renovation will to seek input from the community at this meeting and will discuss preliminary plans for the school. Additional public meetings will be scheduled quarterly during the design process to share progress and get additional community input. Pending the final design, renovation of School 57 is scheduled to begin in 2007.

School 57’s renovation is part of the $200 million second phase of a Capital Improvements Program to upgrade Indianapolis Public Schools buildings. Projects in the second phase were endorsed by the community in a petition drive in December, but are still subject to approval by the state Property Tax Control Board.
